Ford Ecosport Overview
The Ford Ecosport 2018 has got many additions. Now it gets two new variants. These are the S and Signature Editions. They come in petrol as well as diesel versions. The Signature edition is based on the Titanium variant. The S edition is based on the Titanium + variant. The Ecosport is no one of the most accomplished SUVs, with several options available. We were the first to break the story on Ecosport getting new features in May. The Signature edition will come with a black roof and black-machined alloy wheels. It will have a bigger 9-inch touchscreen. The Ecosport will take the Honda WR-V head on, which has sunroof as a big contributor to its sales.
The EcoSport S gets a sunroof, which Ford like to call ‘Fun-roof’. The EcoSport S now gets a 1.0-litre petrol EcoBoost engine, which has a power output of 123bhp and 170Nm of torque. This comes mated to a new six-speed manual transmission. Some features are added to this variant like smoked HID headlamps with dark inserts and a blacked out fog lamp bezel. The front grille and the roof have been blacked out as well. The 17-inch alloys on the SUV get a black machined treatment. The interior has orange accents on the seats and the instrument panel to liven up the cabin. The EcoSport S gets a bigger, 4.2-inch digital instrument cluster which also features a tyre pressure monitoring system. There are six airbags on the EcoSport S along with the SYNC 3 infotainment system with an 8-inch touchscreen.
Ford seems to be in a no compromise mode. It has recently updated its best seller with the 2018 edition and now he company is set to introduce another upgraded version. This time the Ford Ecosport 2018 will come with a new 9-inch touchscreen across all variants (except Ambiente). This will replace the 6.5-inch and 8-inch touchscreen offered currently. Ford Ecosport Exterior & Look
The new Ford EcoSport gets numerous refurbishments on the outside. The alterations include the revised fog lamps and indicators that now been combined into the large triangular housing. The front bonnet though has the same nice power bulge in the center. The car gets larger headlamps with projector along with new LED DRLs. EcoSport features new ford signature radiator grille finished with chrome. The rounded fog lamps in the earlier model have made way for the bigger units.
Coming to the side profile, the new design of the alloys makes a big difference and looks quite appealing. While, at the rear, the car gets few changes like new looks for the optional spare wheel cover and slightly revamped bumper design. Except for the front, there hasn’t been any significant change in the overall appearance.
Ford Ecosport Interior & Comfort
As you step inside the new Ford EcoSport, the very first thing that grabs your attention is the big touchscreen infotainment unit. The system integrates Ford’s SYNC3 connectivity and also features Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. The revised center console houses air-conditioning controls and two USB slots. The EcoSport gets an all-black dashboard while the seats too, are revised with better cushioning. The comfort offered in all the five seats is unrivalled in any other compact SUV. The 60-40 split rear seat enhances the space and comfort level further. As compared to its rivals, Ford EcoSport wins by a huge margin in terms of interior quality.
The steering in the new Ford EcoSport is as precise as ever and perfectly weight, it’s quite responsive and quick. The list of gadgetry is long that includes automatic climate control, glove box illumination, cruise control, rain sensing wipers and tyre pressure monitoring system.
Ford Ecosport Engine & Gearbox
While the older EcoSport used to come with 3 engines – 2 petrol and 1 diesel, the newer car comes with only 2 engine options. The diesel engine is the same 1.5-litre, TDCI, 4-cylinder unit producing 100 PS of power and 205 Nm of torque, mated to the same 5-speed manual gearbox. NVH levels on this engine are good but some clatter does filter inside the cabin. Power delivery is punchy and the EcoSport never really feels underpowered, even on the highways. Turbo lag isn’t very bothersome too. Gear shifts are still very notchy though and even the lever feels heavy, but the clutch is very light. On the fuel efficiency front, you can expect 16-18 km/l. However, it is the new petrol engine that got us more interested in the new Ford EcoSport. This is an all-new 1.5-litre, 3-cylinder, Dragon series engine that replaces the older Sigma and EcoBoost engines. The Dragon engine produces 123 PS at 6500 RPM and 150 Nm at 400 RPM. While the power figure is similar to the EcoBoost engine, torque has gone down by 20 Nm but that isn’t a concern because the EcoBoost unit was turbocharged and this one is naturally aspirated. The engine is extremely refined despite being a 3-cylinder unit and feels very responsive to throttle inputs. The manual gearbox engined model reaches from 0 to 100 km/hr in 10.91 seconds as per our VBOX tests. Power delivery is linear all the way to the redline and this engine actually makes the car fun to drive.
The petrol engine gets two transmission options – 5-speed manual and 6-speed automatic. Do note that this AT is a torque converter unit while the older AT used to be a DCT. However, the gearbox has been matched very nicely to the engine and gear shifts are pretty smooth. It feels even more responsive in Sport mode. There are no manual shift buttons on the gear lever this time but what you do get are steering-mounted paddle-shifters. Fuel efficiency from the petrol engine isn’t that high, you can expect 9-11 km/l under regular driving. However, when I was giving it the beans, the display showed an average of just 4.5 km/l. Overall, the EcoSport scores high on the mechanical front with two very strong engines.
Ford Ecosport Driving Dynamics
The Ford EcoSport has always had a fun-to-drive nature and the new car doesn’t miss out on the fun factor. The steering continues to feel light enough at city speeds while it weighs up nicely on the highways. It also offers a good amount of feedback. The suspension has been softened a bit which makes the ride a lot more better, though it is still a bit on the stiffer side. The new low-profile tyres on the top variants also add to the stiff ride while lower variants with higher profile tyres may make the ride feel a bit more softer. Grip from the new tyres is very good and braking performance on the EcoSport is also well-suited to the weight and size of the car. Check car loan for Ford Ecosport at Fincarz.

So, one enjoys great control as well as stability if the car stops in a hurry. In the safety department, dual airbags and ABS with EBD are offered standard across the range while the top end model gets 6 airbags tech like tyre pressure monitoring system. Other safety features include hill launch assist, speed sensing auto door locks, Ford Mykey, Emergency Assist and traction control.

Even though this is just a mid-life facelift, Ford has made a lot of major changes and thus the EcoSport comes out as an extremely good offering in the compact SUV segment. In fact, it is one of the strongest contenders in this segment now. With low running costs (on diesel engine) and lower service costs that Ford is aiming for, the EcoSport won’t burn a hole in your pocket over the long term.
